Ba players lead All Stars voting November 08, 2009
Ba football players are currently leading the Vodafone Radio Mirchi All Stars team votes, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited chief executive officer Riyaz Sayed Khaiyum confirmed.
FBCL with the Fiji Football Association have joined hands to bring to Fiji its first and historic All Stars versus the Navua team match to be held in Churchill Park on December 13.
The All Stars team will be made up of players the general public will vote for in FBCL’s six radio stations.
“The latest figures confirm Ba leading the All Stars team votes, they have the highest number of players being voted in daily,” Khaiyum said.
“It is expected because Ba is crazy about their soccer.”
However Khaiyum maintained that voting figures fluctuate every day because of the rivalry between the different districts.
“We have people from Ba saying they do not want to see any players from Lautoka in the All Stars team and the people of Lautoka are saying they don’t want players from Suva so the rivalry between the districts is pretty strong and it helps our bid in bringing the best All Stars team.”
Votes for the All Stars team ends on November 20 at 12am. The selected All Stars team will then march into the Ba Football Academy for two weeks before the much anticipated match. The All Stars coach and manager will be selected by the FFA next weekend in a special meeting.
“The whole concept of this promotion is that we all have sideline coaches sitting on the couch in front of the television who think this player should be in this team or that player should be included. This is the public’s chance to decide which players to put it,” Khaiyum said.
The All Stars team will not field any overseas-based reps and Navua Football Association has also confirmed they will not field any of their overseas players.
If this is endorsed by Fiji FA, this is another step backwards. What is the director of coaching doing? Is this development ... well what do you expect from this set of officials?
