Kumar to boost Lautoka’s midfield November 03, 2009
Sensational midfielder Salesh Kumar will make his debut for Lautoka against Hekari Souths United of Papua New Guinea in the O League this Saturday.
The former Fiji and Auckland City player who recently shined for IDC champion Navua and finished off as the top goal scorer was cleared by the Blues this morning for the much important fixture.
Lautoka president Shalendra Prasad confirmed his inclusion and thanked the Fiji Football Association for stepping in to clear Kumar.
“Salesh was interested in playing for us but Navua football was reluctant in releasing him and was holding on to his release but we raised the matter with Fiji FA and are delighted to have obtained his clearance.”
“He is very good player and proved his worth in the IDC where he scored a lot of goals including one against Lautoka in the final.”
“He is a utility player and can fit in any position but it is highly likely that we will use him in midfield.”
“The inclusion of Salesh and Nawatu should strengthen our attack now as we are anticipating a tough match against Hekari on Saturday and need to win at any cost to remain in contention of featuring in the final which has been our ultimate goal” Prasad added.
Kumar is expected to fill in for suspended skipper Jone Vono Junior while Nawatu will replace Samuela Drudru.
Meanwhile Australian players, John Nicholas and Nahuel Arrarte will join the team in Australia on its transit to Papua New Guinea.
The Shop and Save Blues will depart our shores tomorrow morning and will fly to Port Moresby via Brisbane.
