Sharma says “alvida” to Navua soccer October 27, 2009
Navua soccer president Anil Sharma officially announced his retirement from Navua soccer during the historic Inter District Championship victory celebration in Pacific Harbour on Saturday night.
The father of Navua soccer who has been closely attached to the little rice farming township since their premier status in 1989 said it was a sad day for him but added that he had to move on and serve Fiji Football as vice-president.
“I am saying ‘alvida’ (goodbye) to Navua football tonight but my family and company will always be behind the team,” a tearful Sharma said.
“I have served Navua with full commitment and dedication and am hoping the new president that comes in office will do a wonderful job and maintain the status the team has achieved.”
“Under my guidance, Navua has won all the tournament titles and I salute the players, the fans, officials and all well wishers of the team for their support.”
“My dream was to win the IDC title before I leave and I am so glad this dream turned into reality.”
“I am moving on to serve my country now and want to see the national team in the 2014 World Cup.”
“I have been approached for the national team director’s post and if given the post, I will ensure the national team reaches greater heights in future and not remain stagnant.”
“The Lautoka officials have alleged I bought their players in the IDC final and who knows when I take the national team abroad, then people might accuse me of buying Christiano Ronaldo of Portugal or Kaka of Brazil” he jokingly added.
Hardworking district vice president Ramesh Chandra said Sharma’s absence will be badly felt in the new season and is adamant the “father of Navua” will continue to give his assistance to the team.
“Mr Sharma is one of the best leaders in the country and under his leadership Navua has done wonders.”
“We only hope that his support and assistance remains with Navua football and wish him the very best for his new role in Fiji Football.”
“He can take Fiji Football to new heights as he is a man of principle and has a fresh set of new and innovative ideas” said Chandra.
Anil Sharma forgot that Christiano Ronaldo and Kaka make about the same income combined as Fiji's GDP. They don't need extra funds. As a neutral observer to the IDC final, the match smelled very fishy.

Anil Sharma, buying players from other districts and wining a tournament doesn't mean that you have done wonders for the district of Navua. When you win a tournament with local talent from the district of Navua, then you can brag about achieving for your district.
