All’s well in Suva soccer camp: Prasad
July 02, 2009

Suva Football president Mahen Prasad has refuted claims that there is a rift between the players and executives of the largest association in the country.

His comments come after a local newspaper report highlighted that there was trouble in the Whites camp following the sacking of team coach Allen Jesoni.

The report also claimed that players boycotted training under newly appointed coach Zulfikar Khan, protesting Jesoni’s sacking.

“I can assure you that everything is fine in the team and there is no trouble at all” he said.

“There is some negativity in the media reports but I want to tell the fans and the general public that all is well.”

“The players are attending training in numbers and one can come down and witness this himself at the ground.”

“There is no qualm over Zulfi’s appointment and players are training well under his guidance.”

“He is not a new coach and has a lot of experience and a vision of taking Suva soccer to the next level” Prasad added.

Jesoni earlier in the week was given the boot with the reason been he did not commit himself fully to the association which led to the team’s downfall in the Fiji FACT which the Whites had targeted to win on its home turf.

He was said to have missed important training sessions of the team before the tournament and was also believed to have missed local league matches, which should have been used as a platform to gauge, identify and develop district reps.

Suva in the new player transfer window has recruited big names like Harris Bali, Lisala Vetaukula
“Bond”, Joseph Mishra, Dinesh Mudliar, Sandeep Nair and Arvind Pratap.

The Power Electric sponsored side will not feature in the National League this weekend and their next fixture will be against Ba in a fortnight’s time.

Mahen Prasad should know that glory doesn't come overnight. If he wants that, then he should buy trophies and put it in his office. I am a diehard Suva supporter but firing Allen Jesoni wasn't right. He did his part. It's the players who play the game.

I reckon Suva should get a trophy for the most changes in officials and coaches.
