Fiji coaches upgrade FUTSAL skills
November 15, 2008

The weeklong FIFA FUTSAL Coaching Course concluded yesterday in Suva with more than twenty local coaches upgrading their knowledge and skills of the sport.

The course which started on Monday was conducted by high prolific Australian FUTSAL coach and instructor Scott Gilligan.

Gilligan said the local coaches participated well in the clinic and expects them to do a better job in developing FUTSAL better in their respective districts.

“The participants were really keen about learning more and developing the sport further which really impressed me, he said.

“It was also very encouraging to see women participants in the clinic and it just go on to reflect their interest and commitment to FUTSAL.

“The future of FUTSAL looks pretty bright in Fiji as we now have well trained coaches as well as a world class referee Amitesh Behari who recently returned from Brazil after officiating at the recent FUTSAL World Cup” Gilligan added.

Fiji FUTSAL official Balram Nair highly acknowledged and appreciated the effort of the world governing body in promoting the sport in Fiji and the region.

“This course has really broadened the skills and understanding of the local coaches and has equipped them well to do go and conduct coaching and preach the gospel of FUTSAL in their respective districts.

“Scott is one of the most qualified people in the region having been attached with Australian Football and coaching the Campbell Town City Quake side which is one of the most competitive teams in Australia and we are very fortunate to train and learn under him” he said.

Some of the prominent local coaches that attended the course include Ravindra Singh, Waifune Tupua, Amitesh Behari, Iosefo Vosaboto, James Muir and Jainud Dean.

Gillian is expected to conduct more courses of similar nature in the country in the near future.
