Uefa president Michel Platini praised Cristiano Ronaldo yesterday, saying the Manchester United star had respected the word of his contract by not joining Real Madrid.
"I spent my life respecting contracts, it is not worthwhile signing contracts if they are not respected," said the former French international.
"In modern football contracts are not respected: it's all bonuses and agents, it a sad."
He added: "It's shameful to sign a three-year contract extension and then to be transferred straight after."
The summer break was rife with rumours linking Portuguese star Ronaldo with a multi-million move to Spanish giants Real, which resulted in a bitter war of words between the clubs.
Earlier this month both parties appeared happy when the 23-year-old said he would remain at the European and Premier League champions this season.
