Jetsetters out to upset MIB
August 06, 2008

After missing out on a semifinal spot at the recent Battle Of the Giants tournament in Suva through the toss of a coin, the Nadi soccer side is eager and keen to upset BOG champs Ba and move up the ladder in the Super Six Series.

The Jetsetters proudly bowed out of the BOG undefeated and will be out to maintain their trend tonight at Govind Park.

Nadi soccer boss Jitendra Kumar said his team has prepared well for the match and his boys would really give Ba a run for its money tonight.

“Ba are the BOG champs and will enter the match as favorites but Nadi will be no push over and will be out to be the first team to beat Ba after its BOG victory, said Kumar.

“We have prepared well for the game and will display some quality football against the hosts which are always very difficult to beat on their home soil.

“Coach Johnny Williams has trained the players well over the past few days and I am calling on the Nadi fans to accompany the team to Ba and show all the support possible as we are still in the running for the top Super Six spot” he added.

Solomon Islands imports Vahid Namo and Franklyn Forau are doubtful starters for the Green Machine as the duo failed to train with the side due to their study commitments at the University of the South Pacific.

Veterans Maika Kasami and Marika Namaqa will lead the charge for the Jetsetters along with the likes of national goalkeeper Benaminio Mateinaqara, Iliki Ravosai, Josefa Tabusau, Michael Maharaj, Kamlesh Krishna, Ili Gaunavou Junior, Mohammed Shameem and Vijendra Deepak.

Ba on the other hand will make its first appearance on its home soil after its successful BOG title defence and will be backed by lung power from the stands.

The major attraction for the soccer crazy fans of Ba would be the appearance of their star midfielder Roneel Kumar at Govind Park after a lapse of two years.

Kumar, hailed as one of the true sons of the district was at the helm of Ba’s grand slam in 2006 before joining Waitakere United later in the year and switching clubs in New Zealand last year.

The VEnergy Nadi- Vodafone Ba clash kicks off at 7.30pm tonight.

Likely teams:
Ba- Nicholas Lawrence, Manueli Kalou, Roneel Kumar, Jone Vesikula, Malakai Keinahewe, Malakai Tiwa, Tuimasi Manuca, Ronald Lawrence, Pita Bolaitoga, Maciu Dunadamu, Shalen Lal.

Nadi- Benaminio Mateinaqara, Marika Namaqa, Maika Kasami, Iliki Ravosai, Michael Maharaj, Kamlesh Krishna, Ili Gaunavou Junior, Mohammed Shameem, Vijendra Deepak, Sanaila Cava, Ratu Josefata Dugucagi.
