Fiji soccer sensation and Waitakere United Football Club import Roy Krishna is in doubt for the 2008 Fiji Bitter FACT at the end of the month.
The Labasa soccer wonder boy is likely to miss the first Fiji Football Association major tournament of the year because of his contract in New Zealand.
This was confirmed by Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar.
“He is eligible to play if his contract expires on June 1,” Kumar added.
He said Krishna was released to the Auckland-based club on a short-term agreement.
“There is a clause for Transfer Window to suit other countries. He has to follow that because he was released on those conditions,” Kumar added.
“He went to New Zealand at the beginning of the year on a six-month contract. He can only play in Fiji if that contract expires.”
Labasa Soccer Association secretary Imran Hussein said they are trying to field Krishna in the run for the Fiji FACT $11,000 main prize on June 1.
“He is expected home this week for a family function and we will approach him to see his availability,” Hussein said.
“We want to use him in the tournament but that will depend on his contract. Waitakere has qualified for the World Club Championships and it is highly likely that his contract might be renewed.
“If he misses the Fiji FACT then we will wait for the Battle of the Giants and the Inter-District Championships,” Hussein added.
Labasa is the top seed in the Fiji Bitter FACT Pool 2 against hosts Nadi, Nasinu, Navua and Tavua.
The tournament is from May 29-June 1 at the Vodafone Prince Charles Park.
