The Suva soccer side will not take the visiting Brigham Young University (BYU) lightly when the two sides clash in a friendly encounter at the National Stadium tonight.
Suva secretary Avinesh Permal said the visitors would be tough to beat because they are riding high after their two consecutive wins at the weekend and would be out to beat the capital city side as well.
“BYU from what we have gathered is a very strong team because they have professional players playing and we are looking forward to a big game tonight,” he said.
“Our preparations have been going on well and our coach Allen Jesoni will use the match to test all the players in the squad before naming his final 22 for the Fiji FACT.
“Six of our Fiji U20 players are also back with the team after the national camp and will be playing BYU for the second time tonight after meeting them earlier in the Fiji U20- BYU match last week” added Permal.
Meanwhile, BYU defender Daniel Turnbull predicts a tough encounter against the Capital City also and believes the hosts will give them a good match tonight.
“We are really expecting a tough match tonight because Suva will be out to win on their home ground and the natural flair of the Fijian teams really lightens up the matches and makes it exciting,” he said.
“The Fijian district teams are really competitive and we are amazed with the talent of the Fijian players here who are real good athletes and have the potential to do well internationally also.
“We are well versed with the Fijian style of football now and have already played Ba, who were very aggressive, and Lautoka, which had a composed team, and are expecting something similar against Suva tonight,” said Turnbull.
The Brigham Young University club lost its opening match on tour to Ba 0-1 before recording two impressive victories over the Fiji U20 and Lautoka by a margin of 2-0. The team flies out tomorrow.
The Suva-Brigham match kicks off at 7pm tonight at the National Stadium.
