Fiji hosts FUTSAL qualifiers
February 08, 2008

The Fiji FUTSAL commission will host the OFC world cup qualifiers in June this year. The abbreviated code of football will be played at the Vodafone Arena from June 8-14.

FUTSAL commission chairman Younus Haniff said the commission was honored to host the OFC tournament in the country and added that Fiji has the best facilities for the five men/women sport in the region.

“We are glad to host the event and will organize the qualifiers just the world cup after all it’s the qualifiers for the world cup and the nations competing in the tourney will get to use the top FUTSAL facilities that we have here in Fiji.”

“I will be meeting the Fiji Sports Council officials soon to decide how best we can set up things for the qualifiers so that it can go down in the history books as one of the best in the region and more and more international events can be staged here” said Haniff.

Meanwhile, Fiji Football Association in conjunction with FUTSAL sponsors Sun and Sharma’s Insurance has organized an open club five as side tournament for both men and women to select a preliminary national squad for the qualifiers.

The tournament is expected to be played on a weekly basis with the competition starting from next week.

The entry fee for the Mens competition is $100 per team while the entry fee for the Womens competition is $50 per team.
