Labasa stuns Nadi, still undefeated
October 21, 2007

Labasa ran riot over Nadi this afternoon at Prince Charles Park as they came through with five goals to nil.

The Babasiga Lions were on fire after their recent 3-0 win over Suva at the Post Fiji Stadium on Friday night.

Maciu Dunadamu had two goals to his name and young star Roy Krishna one. The pair was outstanding in the visitor’s performance, setting up the last goal to Akuila Bulewa.

The scores settled at 3-0 at halftime. Dunadamu scored the first and third goals while Krishna scored the second goal.

Pita Bolaitoga started the second half with a bang when he rocketed the ball into the goalmouth within five minutes to give Labasa an unassailable 4-0 lead.

Labasa’s last goal came from a Krishna and Dunadamu combination that found its way to Bulewa who sealed the win..

“I am quite happy with the boy’s performance. We had two games this weekend and no goals (were scored) against us,” Labasa president Abinesh Kumar said.

“The fans came out in numbers as well, which hasn’t been for a long time when we play in Nadi. I want to thank them for believing in us and we hope not to disappoint them in the games to come.”

After its unbeaten feat, Labasa has maintained the lead on the point table with 12 points.

Meanwhile, Vodafone Men-In-Black Ba also caused an upset in Govind Park when they thrashed Navua 3-0.

Following their victory this afternoon, Ba has displaced Nadi from third spot. The Men in Black have six points.

Lautoka has 10 points while Nadi, Navua and Suva make up the bottom of the table respectively.

I am proud of the Labasa soccer team. Even when Labasa remains at the bottom of the league table, the Northern style of soccer remains on of the best to watch and enjoy.
No doubt Ba has dominated Fiji soccer for the most part. This is because Ba has good management, good money and good support from public/business AND not forgetting buying out talented players from other districts (like Labasa-remember Epeli Rokoqica and Ivor Evans?)
If the lone Northern soccer team had the "parasoccer" benefits that Ba enjoys, they would have had a record similar or better than Ba.
There has never been a lack of talent in Labasa for soccer-there has though, been a lack of nuturing and retaining those talented players.
The current team no doubt has been well nutured; the question is will it be retained.
If past history is predictor of future, most of the talented Labasa players will be bought out pretty soon (may be next season).
RETENTION WILL REQUIRE SUPPORTING THE PLAYERS WELL FINANCIALLY (AND THEY DESERVE IT). The business community of Labasa shall pitch in-lets learn from the Ba model.
Good Will to Babasiga Lions.

Congrats Labasa. As i have always maintained, with the capability of players Labasa has this year.. it is by far the best team in Fiji. Now they have started clicking as a team. Roy Krishna is clearly a cut above the rest of the players in Fiji. The only player who comes close to matching Roy's talents in the Labasa side is Pita Bolaitoga. I hope Pita and Roy are fielded as the team's twin strikers. Maciu is one of the worst, very lazy and perhaps the most selfish player in the Labasa team. He fails to capatalise on 90% of the chances Roy creates for him. He never passes to Roy. Pita and Roy upfront would be the most lethal combination.

well done Labasa,super6 is yours n wishing u best for the IDC in suva.
u have proven that it is not only in Ba where people can play soccer as what the Fiji Football was thinking.Doc u need to retire with Bob Kumar maybe then our Fiji team will be able to play at the world cup.
Leaving Australia n New Zealand,we even cant be the Number 1 team in the pacific. The hiring n firing of coaches will not work,it is the Fiji Football executives who should be shown the redcard.

to all labasa fans congrats on the victory..but please bear one thing in mind you dont become a champion team overnight. so please dont compare yourself to what BA has achieves coz u guys r miles behind. There is also no doubt about the fact that BA will win the Super 6. Labasa cannot be consistent and they will show that in time..

Well, Ba are the true champs right now as they took all the cups last year, There is no doubt about that. But Labasa is under new young management and they are reaping the fruits now. Avinesh keep it up and break the jinx , don't let BA take the remaining too cups. LEAGUE AND IDC. The labasa team would be the team to watch, too all Labasa supporters in Suva, CHEER FOR LA IN IDC.
