Raw fish is marinated in lemon juice and mixed with freshly squeezed coconut milk.

Fiji’s unique concoction of raw fish is something you must dig your teeth into while you are here.

The raw fish is marinated in lemon juice and mixed with freshly squeezed coconut milk. Even the locals cannot describe the tantalizing taste this meal brings to your mouth.

One thing is for sure, you do not get the fishy smell associated with raw fish.

The dish is usually garnished with spring onions, grated carrots, tomatoes, and even chilli for a little spice.

Fiji offers a wide range of restaurants from five star international to air conditioned and out door coffee shops. Steak and seafoods including kokoda can be found in most restaurants as well as Fiji's traditionally prepared delights.

Another unique dish you must take time out to try is lovo, which is a meal cooked in an underground oven of hot stones. The faintly smoky flavour and the succulent taste that lovo produces makes this a treat never to be missed.

You also shouldn't leave Fiji without having experienced other Fijian dishes like a palusami, meat/vegetables prepared in taro leaves and cooked in a lovo.

The following is a list of restaurants, cafes and coffee shops offering some of the most creative and inspiring dining in all of Fiji.

Diners should note that smoking in public places is now illegal, however there are restaurants that have smoking and non-smoking sections. Eating in Fiji, you will notice, also does not always require the formalised way of eating where you use a knife and fork.

Traditional Indian and Fijian families usually have their meals with their hands.
