The much-awaited Leader's Dialogue, which will see Fiji’s political leaders and the interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama in one room for the first time since the December 2006 coup, takes place at the Parliamentary complex in Suva tomorrow.
It’s been confirmed that the political parties and the interim Government will each make presentations at the meeting.
Each party will be represented by two members.
Bainimarama hopes to discuss with the political leaders an agenda and terms of reference for further dialogue, particularly the President’s Political Dialogue Forum.
Parties which have confirmed their attendance are: Fiji Labour Party, Social Liberal Multi Cultural Party, Justice and Freedom Party, Nationalist Vanua Tako Lavo Party, National Democratic Party, Party of National Unity, National Alliance Party of Fiji, United People’s Party, National Federation Party, Fiji Peoples Party, Conservative Alliance/Matanitu Vanua Party, Soqosoqo Duavata Ni Lewenivanua Party, Soqosoqo Ni Vakavulewa Ni Taukei, and General Voters Party.
The United States and United Kingdom's representatives in Suva have both expressed their support for any dialogue that leads to a practicable agreement on a way forward for Fiji.
However, two of the 16 political parties invited to dialogue with the interim PM will not be represented.
The parties are Coalition of Independent National Party and Party of the Truth, both minor parties.
A statement on what transpired will be released at the conclusion of the meeting.
