A whole new different meaning has been given to the term 'painting Suva red', with people awaiting free phones and cheap deals from Fiji’s newest competitor in the market.
33-year-Kalivati Naisoro couldn’t wait to show off his new Motorola W156 phone, which he got free from a Digicel shop in town.
“Brother this phone has FM radio and they gave it to me free with $75 free talk time,” he said while putting his phone back into his red Digicel plastic bag.
At a barber shop in Marks Street, owner of the business Salesh Kumar, flicking through the pages of the catalogue provided free by a daily newspaper said, “all morning people have been talking about only one thing, Digicel and free phones.”
Taxi drivers and motorists have been getting a Digicel welcome, with free window clean-ups by young ladies and men, donning red T-shirts with Digicel.
The wet weather in the capital failed to dampen enthusiastic music lovers who turned up at Albert Park to watch international star Sean Kingston in concert with NZ reggae band Katchafire and local acts like rappers Sammy G and Mr Grin.
