There is only one solution to this problem and that is to not allow failed politicians to take part in the elections in future. Young people should be involved in Fiji politics who have vision for the future of this country and its people. Many people who had high hopes for this country are now having second thoughts.

Well said Dr Narsey. This statement should have been said some 50 years ago. Better late then never. Our politicians of the day in the 60s rose up in arms when I raised this matter in the same terms in the then Federation Party caucus and again in the Teachers and Principals Associations. I was made to look a complete fool of the day, then. Today apathy has reached a new low in politics and political development in the country. Those who can make it are getting on the cash cow band wagon and those who are the real and true have nots have no where to go but remain in an abject poverty. Solutions are needed to fund initiatives by Government to make poverty history, make the dependence upon overseas products and imports history, make unemployment and its serial backlash on society history. Only when a Leader of your profound ilk rises from the ashes of the present malaise in a country such as Fiji; and addresses the real issues of the political, social and economic development in the country, only then can we take stock of our selves and our nation's problems. And only then can we together make the ground rules that establish a caring, compassionate and considerate society as a whole of all that is within it and not some. Let us all work together to adopt and adapt to our changed circumstances and work for the good of the country rather then to erect eternal barriers between humankind by reference to the greatest sickness of society: my race, my colour against your race and your colour. These are but superfluous to the needs for human co-existence. Remember Albert Schweitzer "All men are brothers" Our country needs the thinkers, philosophers and economic gurus of your ilk more now then ever before. Good on you doc. Bainimarama needs you more then ever now to head his economic team.

Academics talks smart. But give him to walk his talk. Don't blame others. They have gone. If you the will and guts get out from your seat and do the job yourselves. We don't need people who just talk and go. We need people who can do the job.

Scholars always beat the right drum tunes, that's what they think. These academics think their research always brings out the facts, despite what the reality is. In any society from beginning to now we will always have the privileged and the not so privileged, the rich and the poor. You cannot make equal amongst the people of this world, never. We are not born equal but our destiny takes us out there wherever that maybe. So judge not the desolate but praise the hard working privileged. Despite all adversities we live. "I may have another chance on bended knee to pray, And I thank with humble heart for giving me the day. I must exercise compassion, help the fallen to their feet, be a friend to the friendless, make an empty life complete."

That's very true in nature. I would like to know since the independence which party or leader helped the citizens of Fiji. Fiji only has 800k population and people are living in poverty. All the money coming from foreign aid ... where is it going? Fiji will suffer till the land becomes state property.

Two very efficient ways to fix the poverty:
1. Fix the land use problem. If the owner can not utilise it fully, the government should make provisions for others to do it. Give out very long-term usages, so that there is a feeling of ownership and stability for the user for the sake of the whole country. Remember, the people will die but the land will not. Which owns which?
2. Fix the crime and punishment situation. Obviously the jail system is not working. Use Singapore rules: Cane, capital and jail. Crime will die overnight. Investment will flourish: More jobs, etc will feed the cycle.
Think about it. Discuss it.

Teachers are some of the biggest hypocrites teaching every one in Fiji from kindy to tertiary school about racial segregation with FTA and FTU. That Indians should compete against Fijians.

It is very interesting to know from Dr Narsey that the politicians of the past thought they are good leaders but their application was the worst. I may correct if there was no event of December the 5th 2006, in the next 10 yrs, lovely Fiji may be more worse than the worst. I believe God had never forgotten this beloved country because this country had already been given to him by our forefathers. His protection had saved us from ruin and I have faith in all my Fijian friends that do believe in God, we can say that this is his own time and nobody in this planet will deny it. A good politician does not betray his own friendly force. Corruption and etc must be his number one enemy. The vision we are going is clear to those who believe in God. I do not want to condemn anyone but I am very surprised to hear from an academic's view.

Only thing to do is to pray a lot for our beloved country. Read the Bible a lot to know where our nation is heading to. It's God's time now and all corrupt practices will be known because the people have suffered a lot from politicians who think of themselves only. The prayers of the righteous are now shaking our nation. Only prosperous will come after all this suffering we are going through.

Thank you Dr Wadan. I am a native Fijian and I do agree with this point.
These so called politicians are all the same from the beginning till present, once they get elected they get fat, idle and lazy. The Government needs to stop this illness and get rid of this kind of mentality. They need to look into individual performance every six months.
