Popular African choir arrives
09 MAY 2008
Two times Grammy Award winning South African gospel group, the Soweto Gospel Choir, touched down in Nadi yesterday evening ahead of their two concerts in Fiji as part of their 2008 world tour.

The 32-member choir, which includes 26 singers, four technical support staff and their producer and manger Andrew Kay and Berverly Byer, arrived at Nadi’s International Airport at around 6.30pm and quickly made its way to Suva.

The group will perform at the Vodafone Arena, Laucala Sports City tonight and at Lautoka’s Churchill Park tomorrow evening.

Concert co-coordinator Atelaite Cama said the team has just completed their two concerts in Australia earlier this week and jetted out of Brisbane for Fiji yesterday.

“They are currently on their world tour and we have been very fortunate to be on their itinerary,’’ Cama said

She said the change of venue in Suva was because of the unfavourable wet weather conditions currently experienced in the Capital.

The group will perform indoors at the Vodafone Arena.

Initially the National Stadium had been booked to house a predicted capacity crowd coming to watch the popular group that has also backed bands such as Queens, Annie Lenox, U2 and Bono at Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Aids foundation concert.

The concert will start at 7pm.
