Actress Kate Hudson has been named top of People magazine's annual "100 Most Beautiful People list," the celebrity magazine announced on its website Wednesday.

The 29-year-old single mother and Oscar-nominated star of "Almost Famous" told People that growing up she had never paid much attention to her appearance.

"I was a tomboy. I had three brothers. I was the girl with the dress on that always came back in the house filthy with scrapes and bruises," Hudson said.

Even now, Hudson says she doesn't spend much time on pampering herself.

"I don't even remember the last time I got a manicure," said Hudson, who has a four-year-old son, Ryder, with her ex-husband, Black Crowes front-man Chris Robinson.

"I even got to the point where I started waxing my own legs because I don't have the time. I'd rather be home with Ryder sitting there waxing my legs. I haven't gotten a facial in a million years. I don't do those kinds of things."

Hudson is the daughter of Goldie Hawn, an Oscar-winning comedienne and Hollywood starlet of the 1970s and 1980s.

Other stars on the "Most Beautiful" list include Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria, Tony Parker and Julianne Moore.
