The newly-opened Kidney Dialysis Centre at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWM) in Suva could promote tourism industry in Fiji, says Dr Charles Benjamin from New Zealand.
Dr Benjamin, who has volunteered to provide assistance to the new dialysis centre and is also head of Cancer Services in Auckland, says that apart from saving the lives of kidney patients, the Dialysis Centre would greatly promote tourism in the country.
There are 50,000 patients all over the world who would like to visit places as well as get their treatment done and Fiji provides them with both, according to Dr Benjamin.
To give a further boost to the tourism industry, arrangements are being made to set up an online website, which will eventually link all the kidney foundations around the world to enable the promotion of the new centre, he added.
Dr Benjamin is also the adviser to the Kidney Foundation of Fiji. Through an advisory team in Auckland he provided guidance on how to set up Fiji’s new dialysis centre in a cost effective manner.
The centre has two Indian technicians and a nurse while Dr Benjamin provides assistance from Auckland.
