An 18-year-old Fiji student today told a courtroom of his gruesome discovery of the body of a teenager, in the trial of seven men who are alleged to have raped and killed her.
Penijamini Logaivou appeared in the High Court in Suva as State witness in the Zoya Bibi murder case.
Logaivou appeared before Justice Salesi Temo to give evidence in the trial against seven men accused of raping and killing Bibi two years ago.
Logaivou told the court how he found Bibi’s body on June 16, 2008 while playing rugby with his friends at the Omkar playground in Narere, outside Suva.
He said that he went to see the body for himself after he was told by his friend what they had seen. Logaivou added that he saw the body under some bamboo trees in a nearby river.
He further stated that he only saw the legs and other parts of the body but could not determine whether the person was a male or female.
The Form 6 student then told prosecution that he told his friends to go to the Nasinu police station and report their find while he waited at the scene.
The trial continues.
