A senior Fiji government official has today spoken extensively against what he said are rumours about a split between the government of Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and the Fijian military of which he is commander.

Lieutenant-Colonel Pio Tikoduadua, who is permanent secretary to the PM’s Office, also reiterated earlier government comments rubbishing what he said were also rumours about the future of Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Solicitor General Christopher Pryde.

Tikoduadua spoke at a press conference in Suva following a Ministry of Information press release from permanent secretary Sharon Smith-Johns last Friday stating that both Sayed-Khaiyum and Pryde were key movers of the Bainimarama government’s reform agenda.

Smith-Johns said then that contrary to rumours, the two were not going to be replaced.

Today Tikoduadua told reporters that these “widespread rumors are absolutely not true”.
