Fiji’s newly-appointed acting Commissioner of Police Joeli Baleilevuka wants to make tourists feel safe while visiting the country.
A government-issued statement said Baleilevuka wants the police force to reduce crime to a level that makes tourists feel safe when visiting the country.
On plans to tackle crime, Baleilevuka said statistics indicated that the force had “done fairly well” on crime trends.
“With arrangements we have in place crimes have been significantly reduced in some areas,” he said.
Crime statistics would be reduced to a minimal level so that tourists could see Fiji as a safe destination to visit, he added.
“Crimes against person, crimes against properties have been reduced in the past and of course we are going to continue to pursue this further. With our better control tourists will feel safe to come to Fiji.”
