Telecom Fiji Limited is geared towards unveiling its “Next Generations Network” (NGN) costing $40 million.
Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Chief Executive Officer, Tomasi Vakatora said further investment of $20 million is being planned to develop NGN in the Western Viti Levu and the Northern Division.
He added the new system would replace the obsolete Suva telephone exchange.
TFL Suva customers should expect changes to their systems by the end of this month.
“The Telecom Fiji NGN is a spectacular leap in technology, presenting in one efficient package services for voice, broadband, data video, Internet TV and conference calls” Vakatora said.
The transformation of TFL will open a new chapter in the Telecommunication industry in the Pacific.
He said following exhaustive tender procedure, several companies of high repute were selected to provide and install equipment; these include Pacific Century Cyber works (PCCW), Huawei Technologies, Fujitsu, Data craft and Cisco.
“When the NGN is officially inaugurated, customers would have a choice of the new features and products” he said.
