In harnessing Tourism Fiji’s bid to strengthen ties in the Asian market at the Expo 2010 Shanghai China Pacific Pavilion, Fiji’s national carrier Air Pacific rewarded six of its star performers to be part of the Fijian experience at the ‘next great World’s City’.
And the inspiring feedback from the exposure has brought back more smiles to management as it embarks on reaffirming itself on the promise that the new market brings to Fiji in the future.
The six member team which comprises of four cabin crew members and two pilots were selected as star performers in the company were rewarded with what they dubbed as the “trip of a lifetime”.
“Just basically as a national carrier and possibly the largest tourist mover to and from Fiji including our local travellers and traffic, we took the initiative to allow our people to be present at the expo and it really worked out well for us” says Air Pacific Manager Fiji and Pacific Islands Shainaz Voss.
“What we really wanted to do was reward our star performers and to have our presence at the expo and what better way to do it then to have our cabin crew there,”
Voss said cabin crew members play a vital role in the tourist industry as they were the first point of contact for any visitor.
“They are the first point of contact when a person gets on board or when a visitor gets on board,”
“So we also wanted them to experience what happens in the background, what happens at an event such as the expo or when tourism Fiji or Air Pacific for that matter goes out to do a promotion,”
She said the feedback from the team that went to China was positive and suggested plans of bolstering Air Pacific’s hopes of securing Shanghai as the next destination after Hong Kong
“It is something that we look to with optimism and we are working slowly towards that in the future.”
