The Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority (FIRCA) hopes to promote tax payments through the recently launched E-payment services.
FIRCA Board chairman Lieutenant Colonel Pio Tikoduadua made these comments at the launch of the E-payment services this week.
“The electronic payment facility will basically enable taxpayers and tax agents to securely access their bank accounts and make tax payments from the comfort of their homes and offices,” Tikoduadua said.
FIRCA teamed up with ANZ and Westpac last year on the provision of the electronic payment facility, and eventually signed an agreement with both the banks on June 17.
Tikoduadua said FIRCA is the first government agency to provide the option of paying electronically.
“This e-Payment facility will help improve efficiency and save costs, both for the taxpayer as well as FIRCA.”
“It will also complement the e-lodgment project that is also underway and would come into effect in the near future,” he added.
However, Tikoduadua said some problems may be expected at initial stage but he believes this can be minimized with the support of taxpayers and banks.
He is also urging financial institutions to join the initiative by FIRCA to lead to greater digitisation of e-payment services.
