The chairman of Fiji’s Commerce Commission Dr Mahendra Reddy says there has been a disappointing response from hardware companies in the commission’s investigation into anti-competitive behavior in the hardware sector.
The commission had invited stakeholders and consumers to submit issues and complaints in regards to the hardware market after receiving a directive from Minister for Industry and Trade Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Sayed-Khaiyum had instructed the commission to investigate anti-competitive behavior in hardware pricing.
With the closing day of submissions today, Reddy said the commission wants to wrap up its investigative research in two weeks time.
“I must say the cooperation from hardware companies has been very disappointing and by doing so they have not helped themselves and this is very unfortunate.”
The commission had asked various stakeholders and consumers to provide invoices and quotations on purchases of hardware products in the past six months.
