The cost of damage caused by Cyclone Tomas particularly in the northern and eastern divisions will be determined by mid next week, the National Disaster Management office has confirmed.
DISMAC operations officer Anthony Blake said it would be too early to come up with figures right now as Government assessment teams are still on the ground.
“Normally, what happens after a cyclone is that there are three stages we have to go through.
“The first phase is where we carry out the initial survey which involves aerial reconnaissance, that’s being done already,” Blake explained.
“And then we have an initial damage assessment which the navy is carrying out right now. Once this is completed, we then have a detailed sectorial assessment,” Blake said.
“So this is where we are able to get exact figures on the total cost of the damage,” he added.
