The number of fatalities in Fiji from Cyclone Tomas has increased to three.
Confirmation of the third death has been received as relief teams begin to arrive in the devastated outer islands of Fiji’s northern and eastern regions.
Anthony Blake, operations officer for Disaster Management Office DISMAC said the military had found the body of a Rabi Islander.
“He lost his life when a tree fell on his house at the height of the cyclone,” Blake said.
He said DISMAC was hoping the death toll did not rise any further.
“Though it all depends on how the assessments go with our ground teams.”
The second body was found yesterday in Seaqaqa of a Public Works Department worker who drowned while crossing a river near Labasa during the cyclone.
