Two naval boats will leave Suva for the Lomaiviti and Lau groups tonight to assess damage, while another loads up with supplies from an Australian Air Force C-130 Hercules expected to touch down at Nausori 8pm tonight.
Emergency operations spokesperson Anthony Blake confirmed to FijiLive they will also take with them medical packs provided by Fiji Red Cross.
He said the assessment team would radio in reports to Suva so they get a clearer picture of the extent of damage, while helicopters survey the damage in the north.
Blake said there were two airplanes, two helicopters and five naval ships involved in the relief program so far.
Red Cross disaster coordinator Vuli Gauna told FijiLive the medical packs include hygiene and first aid materials with some clothes, while tarpaulins and water containers would go in the bigger boat that will leave later.
He said they were sending a staff to Lau by helicopter from Suva this afternoon to link up satellite radio communication.
Vuli said they were dispatching a lot of hygiene material to contain further threats of typhoid considering the recent outbreak of the disease in Fiji.
