The Reserve Bank of Fiji has declared today a public holiday in Fiji, ordering all financial institutions to close because of the threat from Hurricane Tomas.
The announcement is in accordance with the Reserve Bank of Fiji Act due to Hurricane Tomas threatening the northern parts of Fiji along with the central and eastern divisions.
A RBF statement said Section 62 of the RBF Act allows the central bank to declare any day a non-business day for financial institutions if it is considered necessary in interest of the public in the event of a hurricane, earthquake or other natural disaster.
