Cyclone Tomas is currently travelling at 9kmph and is expected to be hitting north eastern Vanua Levu midnight tonight with Cikobia directly in its path.
On its projected track, Tomas is expected to impact Rabi, Kioa, Taveuni and Koro when it enters the Fiji group.
Satellite images are showing islands in the Lau group would be hit as well, particularly Moala, Totoya, Kabara and Fulaga.
The Fiji Weather office say they expect winds to intensify later today with Category 3 winds averaging 200kmph.
Acting director of the Disaster Management office Pajiliai Dobui told FijiLive people in the outlying islands and villages know where to go for cover.
“We have made a nationwide call for people to prepare themselves for the worst,” Dobui said.
He said they have also given instructions for all sporting fixtures for the weekend to be cancelled.
“At this stage everybody is vulnerable since the cyclone can turn either way.”
Dobui also confirmed the other depression that was developing off Vanuatu has been upgraded to a tropical cyclone.
“It’s been named Ului but it doesn’t pose any threat to Fiji,” Dobui said.
