Justice Priyantha Fernando today refused an application to vary bail conditions for the four men charged with killing 26-year-old James Shankaran Nair of Bau road , Nausori earlier this year.
Justice Fernando then adjourned the case to March 10 following a request from state lawyer Nanise Ratakele.
Ratakele said the original officer assigned to the case, Seini Puamau, had been transferred to the Western division and that her replacement was yet to be announced.
“We need time to confirm with the new officer in the Nausori office when she will be available for the trial,” Ratakele told the court.
Australian resident Zafir Tarik Ali, 28, Taimur Ali, 20, Tahir Ali, 55 and Chandlesh Ganesh are charged with manslaughter.
They were earlier released on $500 bail by the Nausori Magistrates Court.
Nair’s body was discovered in a pool of blood on Bau road by a group of people on their way to work.
A post-mortem examination found he died of a fractured skull.
