A trilateral meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Fiji, Australia and New Zealand took place in Canberra yesterday.
Fiji Foreign Affairs minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola met counterparts Stephen Smith of Australia and Murray McCully of New Zealand to discuss ways of improving bilateral relations between the countries.
The Ministers said “frank and fruitful exchange took place” and the meeting was “an important step towards resolving outstanding issues of mutual importance to each other”.
Future meetings are in the pipeline as parties seek to maintain healthy and mutually respective bilateral relations after Fiji expelled the high commissioners of Australia and New Zealand from Suva last year.
Kubuabola then met separately with McCully to discuss issues of mutual interest, which would include New Zealand’s acceptance of Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni as Counselor to the Fiji High Commission in Wellington.
