The storm that hit Fiji over the past week has cost over $15 million in damage, according to an initial survey by the National Emergency Operation Centre.
This figure is expected to increase significantly after the assessments are completed in the Western Division, which is the worst hit.
Current estimate of damage in the division amounts to $2.7 million, although this does not take into account damages to agriculture and roads.
Damage in the Northern Division amounts to $5,746,432 and Central Division $6,363,033.
The interim Cabinet is meeting today and will get a full briefing from relevant officials on the extent of damage caused by the floods.
Fiji's interim Government has launched a worldwide appeal for victims of the flooding and activated the existing Prime Minister's National Relief and Rehabilitation Bank account to allow for business houses and interested members of the public to donate cash for victims of the floods.
Various local organisations have also launched appeals for victims of the flood.
Two of Fiji’s major commercial banks yesterday activated disaster relief packages for its respective customers affected by the recent spate of bad weather and flooding.
The New Zealand Government has also provided $NZ100, 000 to assist relief efforts.
