Fiji Corrections Services spokesperson, Ana Tudrau confirmed that the incident occurred at 8.30pm yesterday evening.
The escapees are Isoa Waqa, 30 of Waitovu, Ovalau, Solomoni Qurai 28 and Tevita Sugu 29 of Tavuki, Kadvau, Josaia Usumaki 25 of Nakasaleka, Kadavu and Epeli Qaraniqio 30 of Lamiti, Gau.
Tudrau stated that the search is currently being conducted by a team of Police and Fiji Corrections officers.
“We remind the public that harbouring inmates who are at large is a crime under the Corrections Act 2006 and could face a prison term of two years or a fine of $5000,” Tudrau said.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the escapees are encouraged to call Police or the Corrections Command Centre on 3100 107.
