The United Kingdom has provided F$145,330.00 to Fiji's Constitutional Commission to assist it in implementing more public consultations in maritime and rural areas. The funding will also help support local and international peer review meetings for analysing and providing feedback on the initial draft of the constitution. Commission executive secretary, Keshwa Reddy in a statement expressed his appreciation to the British High Commission in Suva, the British Government and the people for their support in the formulation of Fiji’s new Constitution. He said the assistance provided by the citizens of Britain is indeed a timely one and will enable the Commission to reach out to the people of Fiji and keep the community engaged in the process. Acting British High Commissioner, Martin Fidler said he was pleased the United Kingdom could help the Commission in their work. He said further assistance to the Commission would be provided through the European Union (EU).
