Fans of the late Michael Jackson have defaced his mausoleum with small messages, tucked behind windows or bushes, expressing how much they miss him, entertainment website TMZ.com said Tuesday.

"Miss you," "Keep the dream alive," are some of the messages scribbled in indelible ink by unknown Jackson admirers, who are now in the cross hairs of security guards at Forest Lawn cemetery in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale, TMZ.com said.

Cemetery officials were quite angry when they discovered the graffiti.

"Activity such as this, is a prime example why we are evaluating the level of access to the various entrances of the Great Mausoleum," they told the entertainment website.

They said they did not report the incident to police, but that anybody caught vandalizing the cemetery would be banned for life.

Jackson fans around the world marked the first anniversary of his death last month, with candlelight vigils, slumber parties, a jailhouse memorial dance and other celebrations.

More than 5,000 photos, stuffed toys, flowers and other ornaments were left at his tombside in Forest Lawn.

The eccentric genius died aged 50 from a drug overdose at a rented Los Angeles mansion on June 25 last year.

Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the case and is expected to stand trial next year. Murray denies the charges.
