Domestic air travelers will temporarily see a reduction in flights operated by Pacific Sun’s two ATR 42 aircraft that regularly fly between Nadi, Suva and Labasa from July 1.

Pacific Sun revealed this will be until middle of August due to one of the carrier’s ATR aircraft being flown to Tahiti for mandatory heavy maintenance.

Pacific Sun general manager Jim Samson stated these changes are temporary and schedules will go back to normal once the ATR returns from undergoing heavy C checks at the Air Tahiti hanger in Papeete.

“The C check is due every 4000 hours or two years, whichever is earlier,” he said.

“While taking an aircraft out of service means a decrease in service, this type of regular maintenance is an essential part of our airworthiness, safety and aircraft reliability programme,” Samson added.

The cancellation of flights to these routes is expected to affect one to two flights each day of the week except for Saturday.

“Travelers wishing to make use of Pacific Sun's direct Nadi to Labasa service should particularly note that during this time, there will not be any ATR service on the route. Instead, a smaller Twin Otter aircraft will be used for this route,” the statement read.

Pacific Sun’s Twin Otter aircraft may only be used on some of its Nadi-Suva service.
