The Fiji Taxi Union (FTU) is yet to meet with the Minister for Transport, Colonel Timoci Natuva, to review the current taxi meter regulation.
FTU general secretary Rishi Ram told FijiLive the minister is currently in Philippines and will return tomorrow.
“I have given the submissions to Minster’s personal assistant and hope to meet him when he returns,” Ram said.
He mentioned last week that FTU will make submissions to the minister on various taxi meter regulations.
Submissions include better deal over long distance fares by letting taxi meters charge 10 cents for every 100 metres instead of the current 200 metres, the flag fall be held at current rates (Tariff 1: $1.50 and Tariff 2: $2), the waiting charge to stay the same (10c per minute) and that taxis operating from international airports have a surcharge of $5 per trip.
The FTU Board meeting will be on Wednesday.
