The Fiji Electricity Authority is awaiting word from the Government on the restructure to be carried out.

FEA chief executive Hasmukh Patel told FijiLive, Government has agreed that there is a need to carry out a restructure of the Authority with the objective of having an efficient and vibrant energy sector.

“This should encourage private sector participation and provide better and affordable services to the public of Fiji,” he said.

Patel said they did not intend to reduce their work force with the restructure.

“We intend to right size the organization with skilled and competent people.

“The FEA had some 1,200 employees in 2002 and today we have around 650 employees,” he said.

Patel said the FEA will ensure that Government’s objectives are fulfilled and they are confident that the restructure will be beneficial to customers and other stakeholders as well.

“We urge and seek the assistance of the people of our nation to conserve energy for the betterment of our environment and mother earth,” he said.
