‘Precious’ star Gabourey Sidibe wants to lose weight, her mother Alice Tan Ridley has told RadarOnline.com.

“The truth is Gabourey would like to lose some weight but the reality is that she would not have gotten the role of Precious if she had not been heavy," Ridley said.

“As her mom I would like to see my daughter healthy but if she didn’t lose weight that’s not a problem either – it runs in our family."

The family has “relatives that are 80-years-old who are too heavy" so "it works in different ways for different folks," said Ridley.

Regardless of whether her daughter loses weight or not, Ridley has full faith Gabourey will continue thriving as an actress.

“I’m proud of my daughter no matter what and the truth is that there are all kinds of acting roles for all sorts of people.”

The Precious star’s body has come under scrutiny in recent times with shock-jock Howard Stern cruelly mocking her
for being overweight. Rumors have also been circulating around Hollywood that producers want her to do Celebrity Fit Club. A diet company has also reportedly reached out to the actress to get her to endorse their product.
