The head of the FBI's largest office is under investigation in connection with an alleged affair he had with a co-worker, Fox News reported today.
Joseph M. Demarest Jr., assistant director in charge of the bureau's New York Division, has been temporarily re-assigned to headquarters in Washington while the internal probe takes place.
A person familiar with the case told MainJustice.com that Demarest's account of the relationship differed from one given by his subordinate.
She reportedly works in the FBI's intelligence sector.
An FBI spokesman told Fox News he could not comment.
Demarest is a 21-year bureau veteran and was appointed to his current position in December 2008.
He has two children but is no longer married.
