Fiji’s Health Ministry is working to determine whether there are any signs of a possible typhoid outbreak following one last month in which almost 100 people were affected.
Ministry spokesman Iliesa Tora said while there were no confirmed cases of typhoid in the wake of Cyclone Tomas, people should not take any chances.
“There are always chances of diseases breaking out after a natural disaster strikes and we are still trying to confirm if there are any cases,” Tora said.
He said health teams would be sent from Suva to the eastern and central divisions to assess health risks.
“We will be in a better position in the next few days to talk about the health risks,” said Tora.
