The fine weather currently being experienced in most parts of Fiji may not last long although Cyclone Tomas is now heading out of the group, according to the weather office.
Director of Meteorology Rajendra Prasad said a trough approaching Fiji is expected to bring in more rain this weekend.
Prasad told FijiLive the trough will be affecting the southern parts of the country.
“In the worst case, it will be the low-lying areas that will experience some flooding, otherwise there will not be much devastating effects,” he said.
Prasad said that at this stage, there are no other low pressure systems that could develop into a cyclone.
“We are monitoring the situation as Fiji is in the active phase of cyclone development.”
Meanwhile, Cyclone Tomas has left behind some moist weather conditions expected to cause scattered rain today but improved weather from tomorrow.
Despite the gale force wind warning for Ono-i-lau, Vatoa and nearby islands, a strong wind warning has been cancelled for the rest of Fiji.
Cyclone Tomas was located about 195km south-southeast of Ono-i-lau at 5 a.m. today.
