Fiji’s central and western divisions are expected to see sunshine tomorrow, after almost a week of continuous rain brought on by Cyclone Tomas.
Director of Meteorology Rajendra Prasad said rain bands over the central division were predicted to “move off” by this evening and the weather “should improve substantially tomorrow”.
Hurricane force winds are now moving over southern Lau and are expected to pass On-i-Lau around midnight tonight or early tomorrow.
Prasad said that with Tomas steadily moving away from the northern and eastern divisions, winds in those parts of the country are expected to decrease further overnight with rain easing to a few showers tomorrow.
Strong winds affecting the western division should also decrease tonight with weather becoming mostly fine tomorrow.
He said that although Tomas should be moving away from the Fiji group from tomorrow afternoon, heavy seas of four metres or more and swells generated by the cyclone would continue in Fiji waters for the next two to three days because of which mariners will need to exercise special care during the period.
