Schools around the country will remain closed until Hurricane Tomas has passed Fiji according to the Permanent Secretary for Information, Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni.
Leweni told FijiLive once the hurricane has passed Fiji and weather conditions improve in the country, only then will the schools open.
“We cannot open the schools with the hurricane going through Fiji,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Bus Operators Association is monitoring the weather conditions before resuming bus services in the country.
FBOA President Zane Dean said the services in the Western Division should return to normal as they are not feeling the brunt of the hurricane.
“There is no curfew in the West along with a sunny weather so we might resume normal bus services in the West,” he said.
For the rest of the country, Dean was not so sure as the Northern, Central and Eastern divisions will continue to have strong winds due to the hurricane.
“We cannot endanger our drivers and we also have to observe the road conditions before resuming services.”
Dean added, if the weather improves, they will resume services after the curfew is lifted at 7am tomorrow.
