Fiji’s central and eastern divisions will be under a curfew from 8 p.m. tonight to 7 a.m. tomorrow.
Permanent secretary for Information, Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni confirmed to FijiLive that police stations will be issuing curfew passes only to vehicles used for essential services.
Leweni said the existing curfew in the northern division remains in place indefinitely.
“The curfew will remain in place for the northern division while there will be no curfew in the west,” he added.
An initial nationwide curfew imposed last night was lifted early this morning.
Leweni said the curfews were being put in place to ensure the safety of members of the public as Hurricane Tomas passes through the group during the next 24 hours.
