The parents of a three-year-old Indian boy whose body was found dumped by the side of the road have left Australia after an emotional memorial service in Melbourne, reports said Sunday.
Gurshan Singh's lifeless body was found near Melbourne airport on March 4. The cause of death has not been revealed but an Indian man who lived with the child's family has been charged with manslaughter.
At a service in Melbourne on Saturday, his mother Harpreet Kaur Channa choked back tears to speak of her heartbreak.
"This is a very tragic moment for all of us, and only time might heal this tragedy," she told about 35 mourners.
"We came to Australia for a better family life with our lovely young bubbly son Gurshan, but destiny had something else in mind and now we are going back without Gurshan's smile."
Gurshan's parents, who are from Punjab, were expected to arrive in New Delhi later Sunday. It was not known whether the couple, who were both studying in Melbourne, would return to Australia.
Gurshan went missing from his home in Melbourne on March 4 while his mother was having a shower and his father was at the library. His body was found some six hours later by a council worker.
Gursewak Dhillon, 23, has been charged with manslaughter by criminal negligence over the death and remains in custody.
