A telethon held in Chile last weekend to raise money for the victims of the massive earthquake and tsunami has raised 50 billion pesos (97.6 million US dollars).
"We have reached 50 billion pesos," telethon host Don Franciso told the evening edition of La Vespera newspaper, describing the figure as "historic."
The televised fundraiser featured Chilean and international political figures, as well as sports stars and entertainers.
The money will go towards helping victims of the 8.8-magnitude quake that hit Chile on February 27, followed by a devastating tsunami, which killed close to 500 people and ravaged several villages and towns in Chile's south.
