The South Pacific Stock Exchange board has elected Mesake Nawari its new Chairman.
Nawari replaces Pramesh Sharma who has resigned.
Nawari is currently the Senior Fellow at the Graduate School of Business at the University of the South Pacific.
He was the first chief executive officer of the South Pacific Stock Exchange and was instrumental in starting the first Call Market in July 1996 - a catalyst in the development of Fiji’s capital market.
He was also the first Manager of Fiji Stock Brokers and the Unit Trust of Fiji.
Nawari established the Fijian Holdings Unit Trust and became its first General Manager.
He also headed FHL Securities, the lead broker for selling ATH shares to the public.
He was also the first Group Chief Executive Officer of Fiji Television Limited.
Nawari serves on the board of Pacific Green Industries and Media Niugini Limited.
His qualifications include a Master of Commerce in Finance and Banking with Distinction specializing in market microstructure from the University of Sydney, a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting and Financial Management together with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and Economics from the University of the South Pacific.
He is also a Senior Associate of FINSIA.
