Dead body of missing girl recovered

The body of the 16 year-old girl reported missing from her home in Naitasiri a few days ago has been recovered.

Police spokesperson Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed to FijiLive the girl was found floating in a river in Muaniweni yesterday.

“Her body was found floating in the river by some villagers who were on their way to work,” Sokomuri said.

He said the post mortem report confirmed the girl’s death was a result of drowning, and police were conducting an investigation to rule out foul play.

The total number of deaths from drowning this year is nine compared to 17 for the same period last year.
